I am a Family and Consumer Science Education major, which is a fancy way to say Home Ec. Teacher. Aside from student teaching my last semester here at school, I also have to do an internship in a related field. This internship can incorporate sewing, cooking, children, interior design, etc.
For the past two years I have been working on campus as a seamstress making costumes for the school dance department. I will continue working here until I graduate. I would think this would be the perfect internship for my major.... a seamstress! Unfortunately the school has to be picky and refuse an internship that is on campus. So instead of counting the thousands of hours I have spent sewing, I have to spend 160 hours working in retail, at a restaurant, bakery, day care, or something else that I can tweak to count. So it looks like this summer I will be working at Target or Applebees or something barely related to my major to fulfill my idiot internship. GAAAH!

Sorry, Stace. What a bummer.
That is a bummer...but the upside is you have gotten all of those thousands of hours of experience even if the school wont recognize them
Can I punch whomever told you that didn't count? Thanks.
I can't image you'll find a better internship than working at the BYUi costumne shop. But whatever it is, make the most of it. Remeber all the good advice we just got at conference.
I just had a similar frusterating experience today. I called BYU to find out about their program for people like me to finish their degree online...and I was informed that I am 3 CREDITS short of the 30 on campus BYU credits required to be a part of that program. And they siad there is nothing that I can do about it, I cant even go take the 3 credits there. Lovely, I guess my associates degree doesnt count towards that requirement. oh well, thats life, I guess i will have to come up with another alternative. chin up!
I keep checking! :)
Technicalities . . . ugh!
